A Rich and Satisfying Life
I am not sure about you but I don't always enjoy a rich and satisfying life. There are moments in this journey that I feel so alive and so free and so full of life, but those are few and far between. Lately the new rhythms of getting up, homeschool, laundry, dishes, cooking meals, mopping the floor, taking out the trash, cleaning the bathroom, answering 100 hundred questions, refereeing 100 arguments, holding my children when they cry, getting a bandaid when they have scratched themselves, pulling weeds, feeding the chickens, feeding the dog, walking the dog, picking up the dog's poop, has just all been quite overwhelming and monotonous. I wouldn't quite describe picking up a pile of steamy poop with a thin plastic bag living a "rich and satisfying life". So what was Jesus talking about in John 10:10? Was this only an abundant life to come, or is it something that we can enjoy now?
I believe that we live in a sin-tainted world and that because of that everything has been turned upside down. But when we follow and trust Jesus, we trust in the One who turns it right-side up and who makes all things new, who creates life out of dirt and speaks life over death. I believe in this God and I believe that because he is who he says he is, he gives us rich and satisfying life and in Him, we have this. I also believe that we can have that here on earth, maybe not how we would describe it, but if he really lives through us, then we can access this kind of life right now. Somehow in all of this mess, he is working through me and working through it all and he can produce that kind of life right now.
I encourage you and I encourage myself to look for this kind of life and seek this life right now, not to give up, not to despair, but to face the fear, face the destruction, face the suffering knowing that Jesus has lived through it too and that He now lives in me, giving me access to a rich and satisfying life in the midst of the yuck around me. I am going to look for this today, in the face of my children, in the mess of my dishes, in the fact that I am provided for and that there are blessings all around me. I am going to seek this life through him and thank him that He was here all along.
